EWGEM was established at the EUSEM 2024 Congress in Copenhagen and as of April 2025 has over 75 members.
Vision
To promote excellent, compassionate, and equitable Global Emergency Medicine.
Mission
EWGEM is about the intersection between any area of emergency care, and global health.
- Emergency care is concerned with patient care from prehospital to hospital; integrated with primary and public health, as well as with in-hospital acute care. It includes clinical delivery of emergency care, and the systems of care.
- Global Health is concerned with healthcare in settings where there is inequity of resources or access to care. Most commonly this involves low and middle income countries (LMIC), but also includes contexts of inequity within higher-income settings, for example in rural settings or among marginalised populations.
Global EM therefore encompasses the sustainable development of emergency care, providing access to and delivering emergency care, teaching and training, capacity building in emergency care systems, humanitarian relief and advocacy.
