Plymouth is a vibrant university city by the sea, set on the border of Devon and Cornwall, with an active cultural scene and amazing quality of life. Dartmoor, the South Hams and South East Cornwall are all within living distance. Derriford is the largest ED in the South West, seeing 150,000 patients per year. We are an academic department, training hub and Major Trauma Centre and we enjoy close links with Military colleagues, the British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit and the Devon Air Ambulance. Consistently recognised as a centre of training and developmental excellence, and rated amongst the top EDs in the country at the RCEM annual awards in 2018.
Working in the ED on either the junior doctor tier or senior doctor tier(depending on prior experience) rota in a busy major trauma centre in the UK. Plymouth is ideally situated in the south west of England in the beautiful county of Devon. Close to the moorland of Dartmoor and some stunning beaches, Derriford Emergency Department is a challenging but rewarding place to work. We see a fascinating mix of inner city and rural illness and injury and are the major trauma centre for the Peninsula region.
